Cuddle Me!

This is how it starts, a gentle paw on your knee or your arm...

Then, before you know it, Paul is melting your heart with his big brown eyes! I mean seriously, who could resist that face?! Not me... I am loving that Paul thinks he is a lap dog!

Watch him in action!

Chipmunk you say?

Paul is a perfect pack member. He gets along well with all of our dogs and even tolerates my terrier bossing him around. Here they are watching chipmunks from the den. Silly hounds...

Since Paul has bonded with me, I have been able to let him off of the training lead in our fenced backyard. He is a good boy and comes back inside whenever I call him. Of course, there's some freeze dried chicken in it for him to come and he LOVES food! He is such a smartie and so eager to please his people.

My New Best Buddy

Paul has become my new best buddy! He is still a little nervous with my boyfriend, but it is common for shy dogs to prefer the ladies at first so it's not surprising. I've been giving Paul lots of chin scratches and his tail is always wagging now.

This goofy guy is even starting to put his paws on my lap and give me kisses! It is amazing how much he has already warmed up!

Paul's First Day

We picked up Paul from his foster parents today. It was after the adoption event ended and he looked over his shoulder at them as we walked away. He was a little nervous, but hopped right into the car alongside our current foster Laura the Beagle. Paul looked out the car window and poked his head between the front seats to check us out. After he settled a little, he laid down with miss Laura and used her as a chubby pillow.

When we got home, Paul was greeted by our crazy pack of pups - a bossy terrier, a shy shepherd, and a goofy pit bull. He was submissive and sweet with all of the pups and was instantly accepted as part of the pack. Since Paul was still nervous with us, I decided to walk him in the backyard on a long training lead rather than let him loose in the yard yet. He was a very good boy. He did all of his potty business outside and then came right back inside with me. He was still unsure, but started to approach us alongside the other dogs to get some lovings and pets under the chin.

When it was dinner time, Paul came running in with the other dogs to get his nom noms. Paul is a bit of a slow eater, so he seemed to do best eating a little ways away from our piggy pups who like to chow down. After dinner, Paul licked our fingers and wagged his tail. We were nice people after all! He settled into one of the big fluffy dog beds nearby and took a snooze.

When it was time for bed, Paul followed our pups to the bedroom and got into his crate with a little coaxing. He is very treat motivated, so it wasn't too tough to convince him. He is settling in amazingly well. I am so impressed with his progress and cannot wait to get to know him better!

When I met Paul...

When I met Paul it was the first time that I went to visit the Lost Dog ranch. I was told that Paul was my type of dog, meaning that he was a shy baby. I walked up to his group kennel to try to get a sneak peek of Paul, but all I saw was a blur of white and black as he ran away to hide from the strange lady and her squeaky voice. A few months later, Paul went into foster care with an awesome couple and their pack of pups. He has made HUGE strides in his socialization and has come a long ways from that blur at the ranch. He is still shy and nervous with strangers and new environments, but he has learned all about living in a home and being loved.

His foster parents are going out of town for a couple of weeks and I am very excited to be borrowing Paul while they are away. I can't wait to get to know this shy baby and give him lots of lovings!
